New interdisciplinary curriculum for ESD in higher education – available online as Open Acces
The SustainComp Erasmus+ Project has launched the website: Sustainable Competences in Higher Education as an Open Access resource for lecturers and students. The online resource presents Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in four modules, and it is built as a 10 ECTS curriculum for the bachelor level higher education programmes.
The curriculum bridges the gap between sector-divided disciplines via a problem- and inquiry-based approach that combines and integrates subjects and methods from natural science, health science, social science, and . The innovative pedagogical approaches and didactics used in the four modules focus on teacher education and health- and environmental education.
With reference to the UNESCO guidelines for ESD, students will acquire sustainable competences such as cognitive (knowledge about), socio-emotional (engagement) and behavioural (action) competences. Additionally, students will learn about problem-based, interdisciplinary and intercultural methods for ESD.
The four modules include:
- Sustainable Diets (2,5 ECTS)
- Sustainable Health (2,5 ECTS)
- Resources, Inequality and Sustainability (2,5 ECTS)
- Sustainable Consumption (2,5 ECTS)
How to use SustainComp Curriculum?
You can use all four modules in one semester, or you can choose one of the modules and integrate it as part of your teaching.
- Each module is introduced, and its objectives are described in a video on the SustainComp platform
- Users must register as ‘teacher’ or ‘student’ with their email address to get admission to download educational resources, such as files, videos and teacher guidelines
- For teachers, a section is reserved for Teacher Training resources
- All materials are available under Creative Commons License.
